Hello from Miami. We started this ministry last July. We model it after a program in New York City (Metro Ministries). We started out by canvassing four neighborhoods with flyers, inviting children to what we call VBS on Wheels. Instead of inviting them to come to the church building, we go into their neighborhoods teach them songs and give them a Bible lesson. During the summer we held a VBS in four locations every Saturday. We collected names and started sending them a calendar of events. During the fall we switched it to every other Saturday, and on the alternative Sunday we go and visit the families and pray with them. For Thanksgiving we gave out 58 turkeys, with trimmings, to the families we serve. We have also brought the kids to the church building for special occasions: end of summer, fall festival, Christmas, as well as a Christian concert performed by local groups.

The results have been very encouraging. We are definitely making an impact in the neighborhoods we serve. Some of the older children have started coming to our services. We could start a huge Sunday school for the little ones but we aren’t ready for that yet. We need a school bus to get that going. Last week when we were out getting kids for the Christmas program we had to turn some away because we didn’t have room in our vans for them. Finances are short. We are planning to go to one of the poorer areas Christmas Eve and sing Christmas Carols and give out 108 plastic candy canes filled with candy. J4L is also going to start another night of service. Presently we have 2 groups meeting; the college group and the Junior & Senior High school group (roughly 60 people in total). In January, 2010, we are going the start another group for those to old for the Junior and Senior High School group but aren’t mature enough for the college group. We think this will help a great deal to reach this group of young people.

Enjoy the video and as always keep us in your prayers. If you know of anyone that could help our congregation out financially, if would be a gift from God. We have to finance almost all of our activities and we could really use an old school bus. It doesn’t have to be fancy but it needs to run.

Thanks Again,

Mike & Karen
